Trashing Old Coupons

9 February 2009 188 views View Comments

100_7002I hate to throw away free money, but it’s hard to figure out what coupons you’ll need and which ones you won’t.  But don’t let this deter you from one of the BASIC steps of couponing…CLIP ALL COUPONS!!!.

Every couple of weeks, after clipping all the coupons from the Sunday paper and planning the menu for the week, I’ll go through all my envelopes and discard the expired coupons.  It’s just one of the steps to go through to keep your coupons updated and organized.  Eventually this will become part of your coupon routine, and it becomes less daunting.

Don’t think of it as throwing money away, but making room for more, newer money.

How often do you go through your coupon stack and trash the old ones?

One thing you can do is form a coupon club. Bring coupons that you probably won't use to trade with other members who might use that coupon on a regular basis. That way you both win.

I've even seen people take coupons for things they aren't going to buy that are about to expire to the store with them and leave them on the products for other people to use. What a nice treat!

Hey Katie! I'm in Knoxville and new to your site! I love it and will be checking it daily! I wanted to let you know about a website, My Precious Pennies, that describes how expired coupons (and non-expired) can be sent to military families to be used in the commisaries. Looks like they are in great need for pet supply coupons, too, for military pets. Here's the link:

I'm really excited to find out about this, since I do feel guilty just throwing away expired coupons. Now they can help others! Thought you might want to share this with your readers!
    Thanks for all the info,
    Julie
