Knoxville Symphony Orchestra Ticket Give-Away

We are pleased to partner with the KSO (Knoxville Symphony Orchestra) to offer you and your family a great afternoon out at one of the KSO’s Family Concerts.
KSO Family ConcertThis KSO Family Concert is Sunday, November 22 at 2:00 PM at the Tennessee Theatre. The concert is entitled “Shall We Dance?” and explores various types of dance music.

Join Lucas Richman, the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra and Picardy Penguin as they explore the exciting world of music with your family. This concert begins at 2:00 PM at the Tennessee Theatre, but arrive early to participate in Picardy’s Playground, an interactive musical discovery zone in the lobby of the Tennessee Theatre. Picardy’s Playground opens at 12:45 PM and is FREE for ticket holders. This event is perfect for children ages 3-8!

Picardy Penguin, an animated penguin, appears on a screen above the orchestra and serves at the children’s guide to classical music.  At this concert Picardy will help you learn how music and dance have been linked together for centuries in many different styles, beats and tempos, ranging from classical ballet to tap and tango. This interactive concert will have the audience members dancing in their seats to music of Richard Rodgers and Tchaikovsky, among others, all leading into the “Hokey-Pokey” and Picardy Penguin’s theme song, “Music Can Make Your Life Complete.” Vocalist Katy Wolfe Zahn and Go! Contemporary Dance Works will join Picardy and the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra.

    My daughter's favorite children's song is any one which she is creating at the time. Elizabeth creates songs using words of objects that she sees or topics we have recently talked about. She mixes and matches words and sounds together in a rhythem while performing dance moves on the floor. She loves for us to video tape her shows.
  • My favorite children's song is "A Tooty Tah". Who can resiste scrunching up your face, sticking out your tongue and standing with your knees locked together chicken-style for good times!

    My three kids (Kolby 10, Kiley 6 and Jorja 3) all love to sing. They sing everything from the songs we sing at church to songs off of Phineas and Furb on Disney Channel. But there's probably two songs that they will all sing and improvise on: "Rain, Rain Go Away" and "It's Raining, It's Pouring." We've got to sing them a lot this year! When we're in the car they take turns singing a verse putting their own unique interpretation on it. They may sing it fast or slow, high or low, country or operatic - just anything to make it silly.

    My favorite childrens song is Itsy Bitsy Spider because when my daughter sings it she says the Ippy Bippy Spider. So so cute I just love to hear her sing it.

    We always sing Raindrops on Roses from the Sound of Music. I sang my children to sleep singing it and now they both dance around and beg to hear it. It is so sweet to hear my 5 year old sing it.

    My daughter's fav song (and mine) is My Girl. Ever since she was little enough to sing, we would sing that and it would always be a game to see who would say "MY GIRL!!" real loud and first! How fun!

    Well, my favorite children's song is "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star." That's what we sang to my son as an infant to get him to go to sleep each night. He's 2 now and doesn't 'need' us to sing it anymore, but it's nice every now and then for mommy's sake!

    My favorite children's song is Hush Little Baby- my daughter is 8 yrs old but to this day likes for me to sing that song to her- instead of singing "hush little baby" we sing "hush little molly". She thinks it is the greatest thing ever to have her name in a song.

    My girls Jordan,9, and Dawson,7, love the song " Magic". They love to watch Wizards of Waverly Place. They are both great girls who recently spent birthday money to fill up shoe boxes for the needy. They do not ask for much and would spend their last dime to use some "magic' to help brighten up someone else's day

    My kids have always loved "Edelweiss". I sang this to them and still do. It has always been the song they ask for at night. Wouldn't it be great to hear it from a Symphony????? I know I would love it and they would have a new respect for it!

    We went to the KSO performance at the library this week and I could not believe how fixated my son was on the cello. He loves the song "Swing Low". We having been playing it over and over in the car lately. He loves it because that is what his Mamaw use to sing to him!! It was so much fun to listen to him sing it over and over the other night after we had put him to bed, over the monitor still in his room. "Swing low, sweet Cheerio" Still makes me laugh!

    My first favorite kiddie song is "Head and Shoulders, Knees and Toes" because it made all my kids smile and giggle when they were little babies. "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star" has become another favorite since my daughter can play it on her violin now.

    My favorite children's song is.... "If you're happy and you know it.." I play that game with my daughter (who is 3 months old) I put her feet together and sing, "if you're happy and you know it.. clap your feet!".. and a few other versions. She smiles and tries to hide her face every time I sing it. ADORABLE!! I have always loved that song because it's so simple to remember.

    For many generations in my family, "You Are My Sunshine" has been a huge favorite with all the children. I sing my girls to sleep with it, my mom sang my sister and I to sleep with it, and as did my grandmother with my mom. It is the heal all song with my family. Not only our favorite, but a comforting childhood memory for us all.

    My favorite kids song today is "Itsy Bitsy Spider" because it's the first song my 2 1/2 yr old has finally learned to sing. It's always too precious for words to hear my little ones sing!

    My sweet little daughter, who turns three soon, has been a free-spirit, right from the beginning. She has always loved music, all kinds under the sun. But she refuses to be predictable... Her favorite song is NOT "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star." It's NOT "Ring Around the Rosie" or "Jesus Loves Me." No, my daughter's favorite song to sing all day long, everyday is "Tennessee Jed" by Grateful Dead! She belts out, "Tennessee, Tennessee, Ain't no place I'd rather be, Won't somebody carry meeeeeeee, Back to Tennessee." I love that girl.
