Couponing at Walgreens
There are a few ways to find some great deals at Walgreens. I know, it surprised me too but it is true. With a little Coupon Strategy you can get lots of free- or almost free items.
1. The Easy Saver Catalog - You’ll find this little catalog in the front of your store next to the weekly flier. This catalog contains coupons that you can use at Walgreens for the specified month. (A new one comes out every month)
2. Rebates – Found in the back of the Easy Saver Catalog are the rebate pages. Walgreens typically has a few free after rebate items every month. I do all my rebates online by going here. All you have to do is register then enter your receipt information and check the boxes for the rebates you are applying for. If you chose to have your rebates put on a Walgreens gift card you get an extra 10%!
The goal with rebates is to “grow” the amount on your gift card. The best way I have found to do that is to use manufacturer’s coupon on the free after rebate items. By doing this you are essentially making money on the products you are getting. Over a short time using coupons, plus the extra 10% you get back will allow you grow the amount on your gift cared. Soon you will be getting some great deals and won’t be spending any money out of pocket.
3. Weekly Ads Found in the Sunday newspaper (the Knoxville News Sentinel for me), in the front of the store or here. Walgreen’s weekly ad not only lists their sales it if full of coupons. Here is the great thing- you can stack (or use both) manufacturers coupons and store coupons on the same items. This can lead to some great deals- just remember one thing you must have as many items as you have coupons.
4. Register Rewards (RR). When you buy certain items at Walgreens coupons will print out of the Catalina machine next to the register- Register Rewards. Depending on the promotion going on they will vary in value but can be used like cash on your next purchase.
Catalina machines are generally programmed to print one RR coupon for one qualifying item. If you purchase more than one of the same qualifying items per transaction, you will only receive one RR coupon. If the store is not busy and you really want to buy more than one of a qualifying item you can request to do separate transactions and RR will print each time. If you purchase different qualifying items in the same transaction you will receive one register reward for each item.
**Note: You cannot “roll over” RR to do the same deal again.
For example – Diapers are on sale for $9.99 and you get $3 RR. You will not earn another $3 RR on diapers if you use the RR earned on the previous diaper purchase to pay, they must be used on a different item. So, if there are two RR deals going on that work for you rotate which ones you are paying with.
Also, RR are considered coupons and count in your Coupon-to-Item-Ratio.
